In 2005
· Claimed his first ever victory at Michigan and fifth of his career to move firmly into the top 10 with only three races left to set the Chase for the Championship field. Earned his second consecutive berth in the Chase; one of only seven drivers to make the field both years. Had four top-five and nine top-10 finishes with only one DNF for the season.
In 2004
· Claimed his first victory for Evernham Motorsports with a win at Richmond which earned him a berth in the inaugural Chase for the Nextel Cup. Finished 10th in the final season standings.
· Had five top-five and 13 top-10 finishes; swept both Bud Poles at Dover.
In 2003
· Earned his first pole position for Evernham Motorsports in April at Talladega.
· Scored two exciting runner-up finishes at Richmond and Dover in the second half of the season.
· Finished the season with four top-five finishes and 12 top-10 finishes on his way to a 19th-place finish in the Winston Cup driver standings.
In 2002
· Won the pole for the Winston Open, a non-points event, and went on to win the race in dominating fashion. He became only the third driver to win multiple Winston Opens, both victories coming from the pole position. The victory placed him in the all-star event, The Winston, for the fifth consecutive year.
· Earned two top-five finishes on the season, nearly pulling off the victory at Las Vegas. He had four top-10 finishes on his way to a finish of 26th in the Winston Cup point standings.
Other Accomplishments:
· Finished third at Bristol, Darlington and Watkins Glen en route to a total of five top-fives and seven top-10 finishes in the first 28 races of 2001.
· In 2000, earned two wins --- at the NAPA Auto Parts 500 at California Speedway and the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway. He also earned four poles at the season’s first race at Talladega and the circuit’s second visit to Darlington, Dover and Rockingham.
· Finished 11th in the 1999 points race, with five top-fives and 12 top-10s.
· Earned first career victory in the Pocono 500 in June 1998.
· In 1998, finished seventh in the Winston Cup points after leading the points battle four times in the first 16 races. He earned 12 top-five and 16 top-10 finishes and won the Winston No bull 5 qualifier and Winston Open non-points races that season.
· Finished the 1997 season 13th in the points race with eight top-10 finishes.
· Won his first career pole at Talladega in July 1996.
· In 1995, ran 27 races in his first full Winston Cup season with Cale Yarborough.
· Made Winston Cup debut with Earl Sadler at Charlotte Motor Speedway in October 1993.
